Unroasted Cacao Beans
Description
Naturally crunchy, intensely chocolatey and carefully peeled by hand. Discover whole cacao with its natural cocoa butter, complex flavour and nothing added.
Flava’Choc’s Hand-Peeled Cacao Beans bring you closer to cacao’s origin. Sourced from Bundibugyo in western Uganda, at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains, these beans combine nutty depth with notes of berries, pineapple and a subtle spicy finish.
Each bean is individually peeled without roasting or mechanical shelling. Enjoy them whole, crush them over breakfast or grind them fresh to explore cacao’s rich texture and aromatic character.
Cacao and Heart Flow
Cacao naturally contains flavanols, the plant compounds that have brought it particular attention in research on blood-vessel function.
Flava’Choc’s approach centres on careful processing and avoiding roasting, with the intention of retaining these naturally occurring compounds. The precise flavanol content of these whole beans has not yet been independently quantified, so a serving cannot currently be linked to a demonstrated circulation benefit.
Their everyday appeal is beautifully tangible: pure cacao, satisfying crunch and a deep chocolate flavour without added sugar.
Why these beans stand apart
- 100% cacao: whole peeled beans with their natural cocoa butter retained.
- Hand-peeled: individually shelled with care.
- Unroasted: processed without conventional heat treatment.
- Single-origin Uganda: sourced from Bundibugyo near the Rwenzori Mountains.
- Distinctive flavour: nuts, berries and pineapple with a gently spicy finish.
- Nothing added: no sugar, sweeteners, flavourings or preservatives.
- Independent testing: laboratory analysis available for the product.
Care at every stage
A locally grown combination of Trinitario and Forastero cacao gives these beans their distinctive character. Brief, monitored fermentation is followed by slow drying under controlled, indirect sunlight.
The beans are then peeled by hand and treated with UV light as part of the producer’s food-safety process. This approach avoids conventional roasting while preserving the experience of whole, unroasted cacao.
The cacao is grown using the producer’s described natural agricultural methods. It is not currently certified organic.
Make it your cacao ritual
Enjoy a few beans slowly to discover how their fruity notes develop as you chew. Crush them over porridge, yoghurt or a smoothie bowl for an intense chocolate crunch.
For a richer preparation, grind them finely and blend into warm milk or a plant-based drink. Because the beans retain their cocoa butter, they bring a fuller texture than defatted cacao powder.
They also make a striking finishing touch for desserts, homemade granola or a savoury sauce that welcomes a little cacao depth.
